Hi I tried to create a new Joomla 4.0.3 installation on my localhost but unable to replicate the problem (please have a look on the screen cast video below) The thumbnail is generated as it should.
Can you tell me how did you add the image to the article? Also, is your joomla 4 a new fresh install or an upgrade from joomla 3?

My Joomla installation is fresh. Then I imported content from the old site using the SP Transfer component
Here is a short video of inserting the article:

As you can see I have two modules with MinifrontpagePro. I deleted the thumbnails with no effect.
I'm using the JCE Pro component for editing the articles and as a file manager. Maybe this is messing things up?
But in the old site, I'm also using JCE and MFP, and everything is fine. You can look the sidebar: bul-wrestling.org

Can you try to temporarily disable JCE Pro and then use the standard TinYMCE to create new article with image? Just want to make sure whether this is related to JCE Pro or something else

Yes, it's because of JCE Pro. When I disabled it the thumbnails show correctly.
Can you make MFP compatible with JCE?
I can't replace the editor - there are more than 5000 articles created with JCE Pro.
