Thanks for the offer, but I think I can wait, since I'm still in my preparation for J 4.0 anyway. And as long as I don't use j 4.0 actively anyway, I can live with this outdated version for now. It's just a pity that the subscription continues and expired in April. Is it possible to pause this?
I will otherwise but also look at my test environment in how far the same error with Joomla 4 appears, or whether it is not the case there.

Anyway, I've been trying to replicate your condition by installing the old 1.7.1 version on joomla 3, then creating an article with webp image inside the body, but still, there is no thumbnail is generated.
Can you confirm, when you said the old version is working properly, does it mean 'it can generate thumbnail from webp images' or 'it's just working without thumbnail and no error message' ?
